Katia & Oladele

ARE GETTING MARRIED

April 4, 2026 | Oaxaca, Mexico

Our Story

Katia and Oladele

Their story began on a summer day in New York City back in 2015. What started as a first meet-up turned into a 24-hour conversation, sparking a connection that would soon cross an ocean. Over nearly three years of long distance filled with trips to Paris and countless late-night calls, their bond only grew stronger, leading to adventures in 18 countries.

Finally, after eight years together, Oladele surprised Katia on a New York rooftop, surrounded by her favorite songs and memories from their journey. There, he popped the big question, and now they can’t wait to celebrate their next chapter with you.

FAQs

What will the weather be like?

April in Oaxaca is typically beautiful! Expect warm and dry weather, with daytime temperatures averaging around 88°F (31°C). Evenings can be cooler, so we recommend bringing a light jacket or sweater for the nighttime festivities.

What is the dress code?

Formal Attire. We invite you to celebrate with us in your finest, embracing the formal traditions of Nigerian, Mexican, or American cultures. We kindly request that guests avoid wearing white, burgundy, or burnt orange, as these will be reserved for our families.

Will there be any cultural traditions I should know about?

Yes! We will be incorporating the Nigerian tradition of 'money spraying' during the reception. This is a joyful way to celebrate the couple by showering them with cash. If you'd like to participate, it's a good idea to bring small bills. It's completely optional but a lot of fun!

A note on inclusivity

We are overjoyed to celebrate our love with all of our loved ones. It is deeply important to us that every guest feels safe, respected, and celebrated for who they are. We are committed to creating an inclusive and welcoming environment for everyone, including our LGBTQ+ family and friends. Love is love, and we can't wait to share ours with you.

How can we share photos?

We'd love for you to share your photos with us! We have created a shared Google Photos album where you can easily upload your favorite moments from the wedding week. It's the best way for us to see the celebration through your eyes!

Do I need a visa to travel to Mexico?

This is for informational purposes only. Please consult your local embassy or consulate for the most current travel requirements.

  • US, French, and Mexican Citizens: Citizens of these countries do not need a visa for tourist stays of up to 180 days. You will need a valid passport.
  • US Green Card Holders (Permanent Residents): Regardless of your country of citizenship, if you are a lawful permanent resident of the United States, you do not need a visa to enter Mexico for tourism. You must present your valid passport and Permanent Resident Card (Green Card).
  • Nigerian Citizens: You will likely require a visa to enter Mexico for tourism. Please begin the application process well in advance at the nearest Mexican embassy or consulate in your country of residence.

What about local travel and money?

  • Getting Around: While Uber is not available in Oaxaca, the ride-sharing app DiDi works very well and is a great alternative to local taxis.
  • Currency: The local currency is the Mexican Peso (MXN). We recommend exchanging a small amount of cash at the airport for immediate needs and then using ATMs (cajeros automáticos) for better exchange rates. Credit cards are widely accepted in hotels, restaurants, and larger shops, but cash is useful for smaller markets and vendors.

Are children welcome?
